Wesley Centre... Consistent and Comprehensive System of Supports
Wesley Centre is Hamilton's ONLY 7 day a week drop-in centre supporting homeless, street-involved, and at-risk men and women move toward healthy independence.
Evidence shows that drop-in centres, particularly consistent programs like Wesley Centre, are effective supports for vulnerable, at-risk and potentially homeless people. Wesley Centre is working with our shelter and community partners to ensure that there is a facility that will support people with critical services to help people build skills for future success and independence.
We Need Your Help - $1,000 a day is needed in new funding to ensure that over 250 people accessing Wesley Centre every day can be engaged in critical services to support them in positive change and life transitions.
Contact Tamara Coleman-Lawrie at 905.528.5629, Ext. 244 today to find out how for just $19.24 per week you can Sponsor a Day at Wesley Centre and ensure that this centre is available for people in our community.
Wesley Centre & The Blueprint for Emergency Shelter Services
For some time now, Wesley Centre and other emergency shelter providers in Hamilton have been working on transforming the way we work with homeless men and women. The results of a number of years of work have been dramatic. More individuals are being housed and staying housed. As a result, shelter numbers have been dropping consistently for the last few years. This work is part of an initiative we are calling the “Shelter Blueprint”.
As you will see from the document information (above), one of the resulting changes from the implementation of the Blueprint is that Wesley Centre will become a day-time drop-in only as of August 1st, 2010. That means we will no longer provide emergency overnight shelter which we have been doing since 1991.
